Since so many musical events have been canceled this year due to the Pandemic, I have been rediscovering the music of J. S. Bach for Solo Violin and decided to share it here. In his Sonatas and Partitas, Bach takes the solo violin to places where it has not been before his time, musically and technically. To this day they are considered some of the most difficult works in the violin repertoire. I find that using a Baroque bow gives this music the character and voicing possibilities that are closer to Bach’s intentions, though I must say his music can have penetrating effect when played in various settings and on different instruments. Below is a Playlist of each Sonata and Partita recorded at home.
